When it comes to smartphone displays, we’ve seen some companies adopt adaptive resolutions which means that when the phone doesn’t require a higher resolution, it will use a lower one to save battery. These days, we’re seeing similar technology applied to the refresh rates, and the OnePlus 9 Pro could be taking advantage of it.
In a tweet by @MaxJmb, they are claiming that OnePlus could be adopting a new display technology for the OnePlus 9 Pro that was not previously used in its older models. This comes in the form of LTPO display, a change from the LTPS displays that some other phones use.

The use of LTPO means that it will be more energy efficient and will also have the ability to adapt its refresh rate without the need for additional hardware. Other phones like Samsung’s flagships have already adopted it, so OnePlus wouldn’t be the first, but it will be a welcome upgrade if the rumors are true.
At the moment, OnePlus phones the OnePlus 8T Pro feature a 120Hz refresh rate, so it’s possible that the OnePlus 9 Pro will retain that, but it should also have the ability to drop the frame rates to a lower one when required. Currently, there is no word on when the phone will be announced, but it should be in the coming weeks or months. Other rumored features of the OnePlus 9 include a possible collaboration with Hasselblad on camera technology.
