Our phones now come with increasingly larger displays than they did back in the day. While these large displays are great for watching videos, playing games, and surfing the web, let’s be honest, they can be annoying at times for moments when you have to use your phone with just one hand.
Unless you’ve somehow been blessed with large hands, reaching the corners of your phone’s screen with one hand can be difficult. The good news is that the folks at XDA have discovered that Google could be finally introducing a one-handed mode in the upcoming Android 12 update.
While it is unclear how exactly this will be implemented, it has been speculated that it will probably look like how other handset makers have introduced similar features in the past. This means that by performing a gesture, users can “shrink” the overall UI and bring it to the bottom corner of their phone’s display, thus allowing them to access various elements of the UI using just one hand.
Companies like Apple have introduced similar features in the past, so it’s not surprising that Google is also looking into it, although why they have taken this long is anyone’s guess. Android 12 is expected to be released later in the year, but a Developer Preview should be out in the coming months where hopefully we’ll have more details then.
