Samsung Exynos with AMD graphics could arrive sooner than we thought

As some of you might have heard, Samsung and AMD are working together to create a new Exynos chipset that would be powered by AMD’s graphics technology. Right now, the latest Exynos 2100 features the use of ARM’s Mali-G78 GPU, which is fine in its own right, but given AMD’s experience with GPUs, suffice to say that many are eagerly anticipating the fruits of this collaboration.

The good news is that we might not have to wait too long to see it hit the market. This is according to leakster Ice Universe who has proven to be pretty reliable in the past. According to the tweet, they claim that we can look forward to seeing a new Exynos chipset featuring AMD graphics either in the second or third quarter of 2021, and that it will be part of the company’s 2xxx and 1xxx series of chipsets.

Samsung had confirmed earlier this month that we can expect to see the fruits of the partnership, but the company stated that it would be launched in their next flagship product. Some have understandably taken this to mean handsets in 2022, but do note that Samsung does have several new high-end phones planned for 2021, like new foldables, for example.

It is possible that is what the company meant, either that or they moved up their timeline. That being said, it remains to be seen how powerful these chipsets are or if it is simply hype, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
