AMD GPUs will power Samsung’s next flagship product

Samsung recently unveiled the Exynos 2100 chipset, which is widely expected to make its way into the Samsung Galaxy S21 and other high-end smartphones the company plans to release this year. The new flagship chipset will utilize the ARM-designed Mali-G78 GPU, which is by no means a slouch, but Samsung’s next flagship could blow it out of the water.

During the event that saw the Exynos 2100 get confirmed, Samsung also provided an update on their GPU development that they’ve been developing with AMD since 2019. According to Samsung’s Dr Inyup Kang, he claims that this component is expected to make its way into the company’s next “flagship product”,

Based on the wording, it is clear that the Galaxy S21 will not be it, so where does this leave us? This means that there is a good chance that it’s probably the successor to the Exynos 2100 that will be getting this component, which means that we’re either looking at a launch towards the end of 2021 or possibly 2022.

Leakster Ice Universe has suggested that there is a chance that the AMD GPU could find its way into the Galaxy Z Fold 3, but maybe don’t hold your breath and get your hopes up just yet. While we have no idea how well the AMD GPU will perform, given AMD’s experience in the GPU market, it’s hard not to get excited at the possibilities that such a component could have.
