Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 will be used in the majority of flagship phones of 2021. Given its flagship status, it’s not wrong to assume that most of these phones will also come with hefty price tags, like the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S21 which we expect will cost $1,000 and more.
Xiaomi is hoping to change that narrative because according to Redmi executive, Wang Teng Thomas, he has revealed the price of the company’s upcoming Redmi K40 smartphone which will retail for 2,999 Chinese Yuan, which after conversion is around $464. While we have no idea how much the Samsung Galaxy S21 will cost, it’s a safe bet to say that it will most likely not even come close to that price.
While the use of the Snapdragon 888 has been confirmed, Thomas has also indicated that the phone will come with the “most expensive straight screen”, with rumors suggesting that its display might also be packing a 120Hz refresh rate. The rumors are also claiming that the phone will come with a quad-camera setup on the back, and will also support 33W fast wired charging.
While it might not necessarily be the most feature-rich phone, at least based on what we’re hearing so far, at its price it is a steal for those who want the power of a flagship handset but don’t want to break the bank in the process. The Redmi K40 will be announced next month, so we will have more details to share then.
