Internet service providers typically provide customers with routers, but these routers are usually less than optimal. If you simply need a connection, they get the job done, but for those looking to max out their speed or maybe need more coverage, then you’ll have to start looking at alternatives.
At CES 2021, CommScope has taken the wraps off two brand new devices that’s part of its SURFboard lineup. This includes the ARRIS SURFboard mAX and the ARRIS SURFboard mAX Express.
With the SURFboard mAX, this is a WiFi 6 enable mesh router that will help blanket your home with wireless internet coverage, helping eliminate dead zones and ensuring that every corner of your home is covered with internet. CommScope claims that the router will be capable of delivering up to 6.6Gbps speeds and will also be able to cover areas as large as 5,500 sq ft.
As for the SURFboard mAX Express, this is not a router but rather an extender. This is a single unit device that plugs into a wall outlet, but it seems that it is not your typical extender. CommScope claims that it will offer up the power and capacity of a tri-band WiFi 6 mesh system, but will also be more convenient as it is a smaller setup.
For those who are interested in getting their hands on either of the devices, the SURFboard mAX is currently available for purchase where it is priced at $250 for a single unit, and $400 for two units. The Express extender will be made available later in the first quarter of 2021.
