OnePlus phones used to start off being priced rather fairly, but over the years, the prices have gone up to the point where it feels like they’re just like all the other smartphone makers. That could change in 2021 because according to a report from Android Central, we could be seeing a more affordable flagship from the company.
The report claims that OnePlus will be launching a “Lite” version of the OnePlus 9 handset. This will be part of a trio of handsets the company plans on launching next year, which includes the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro. Unlike the base model and the Pro variant, the Lite version is expected to come with slightly parred down specs.
Apparently the OnePlus 9 Lite will be similar in terms of hardware to the OnePlus 8T, which the report claims will be powered by the Snapdragon 865 chipset instead of the Snapdragon 888. Hopefully what this means is that the phone will be more affordable than the other Snapdragon 888 models, but exactly by how much remains to be seen.
To be fair, the Snapdragon 865 is a very powerful chipset in its own right and is used by most of the flagships of 2020, so even in 2021, it is no slouch, but it could present as a more affordable alternative for those who don’t really care about having the latest smartphone technology.
