The way Android is setup allows handset manufacturers to create their own customization options and tweak the Android operating system in various ways. For some manufacturers, they have opted to leave Android alone and ship it with minor tweaks, but still maintaining the Android experience.
Others, such as Samsung, have opted to customize their devices heavily and introduced their own services in place of Google’s. But it seems that Samsung is done fighting that fight, at least in some part, because it appears that with the upcoming Galaxy S21, the company could finally be including Google Discover on the home screen for its users.
Prior to this, Samsung tried to force users to use its own discovery services like Samsung Free/Samsung Daily. We get it, it’s an understandable move, but this change will make Samsung’s phones a bit more Google-friendly, so to speak. Of course, the option is still there if users want to use Samsung’s own services, but at least those who weren’t fans of it can now choose to use Google Discover.
The Samsung Galaxy S21 is currently set for a launch on the 14th of January, 2021 which is the last day of CES, so we only have about a month before all the official details are revealed, so remember to check back with us then for more updates.
