While buying phones from carriers is a good way to budget yourself as they typically allow for installment payment plans, there are some compromises that you have to live with, such as slower updates. This is because updates typically need to go through the carrier’s approval process first before being pushed out.
This is versus unlocked handsets that get it whenever it is ready. A good example would be T-Mobile’s variant of the OnePlus 8T, where the carrier is finally releasing the update that will give the phone its always-on display, a feature that other OnePlus 8T owners have been enjoying for a while now.
If you’re a T-Mobile OnePlus 8T user, then do keep an eye out for the OTA v11.0.4.6.KB09CB update which will bring the feature to your phone. If you’re not sure if you have it already, then go to your display settings and you should find a toggle for Always-on ambient display, which is the always-on display.
If you don’t see it yet, don’t worry as the update should be making its way to you. You can always try to manually fetch the update if you’d rather not wait, but we imagine it shouldn’t take too long before the update makes its way across all T-Mobile OnePlus 8T handsets, so you’ll want to keep an eye out for it.
