OnePlus is expected to follow up the launch of the OnePlus 8T with the OnePlus 9 that will most likely arrive in 2021. Now according to the folks at XDA, it has been discovered that within the OxygenOS code, there are references made to the OnePlus 9 along with the suggestion that the handset could find its way to carriers like T-Mobile and Verizon.
The launch on T-Mobile shouldn’t be too surprising given that the carrier currently sells the OnePlus 8T, but the launch on Verizon comes as a pleasant surprise. This is because Verizon had previously skipped on the OnePlus 8T, and the last time they carried a OnePlus phone was the OnePlus 8 5G UW which was a special variant designed to take advantage of Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband network.
The code lists at least five different variations codenamed “lemonade”, which XDA believes could reference the non-carrier versions of the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro, as well as the T-Mobile OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, and Verizon’s OnePlus 9, suggesting that the carrier might be passing up on the Pro version of the phone.
Not much is known about the OnePlus 9 at this point in time, but if it is anything like its predecessors, there is a good chance that it will come with Qualcomm’s next-gen flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 875. So, if you’re looking to pickup the phone from a carrier on an installment plan, then T-Mobile and Verizon could be the carriers to keep an eye out for.
