The folks at XDA just made their own smartphone, and they brought the physical keyboard back
When you think of the good folks over at XDA Developers, you might think of a community and internet forum where Android enthusiasts gather to exchange ideas, discuss about Android, share modding ideas and creations, and so on, but it looks like XDA now wants to expand being that and have since launched their own smartphone – the XDA Pro1-X.
If the design and the name of the Pro1-X look and sound familiar, it is because the handset is actually a collaboration between XDA and F(x)tec, the latter of which created the Pro1 that the Pro1-X is based on. XDA claims that they have made some tweaks to the handset such as bumping up the RAM and storage, but for the most part, the rest remains the same.
This includes the use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, a fingerprint scanner, a dedicated camera button, USB-C and HDMI out, and a dual 12MP + 5MP camera on the back and an 8MP front-facing shooter. The phone will also run on LineageOS, the spiritual successor to CyanogenMod, but according to XDA, there will be versions that run Ubuntu Touch OS and regular Android if that’s what you prefer.
They have also decided to go with the inclusion of a slideout QWERTY physical keyboard, a rarity these days amongst Android devices. The XDA Pro1-X is currently on Indiegogo where it’s being sold at an early bird price of $679, which is 24% off its RRP of $899.
