It seems that despite all of Huawei’s legal troubles, the company is still set to launch its second flagship smartphone of 2020 – the Huawei Mate 40 series. In fact, the company has confirmed that they will be officially announcing their new lineup on the 22nd of October. This could also possibly be one of the last major smartphone announcements of 2020.
Not much is known about the Huawei Mate 40 series at this point in time. Renders of the phone that were leaked back in August showed off a circular camera module on the back of the phone, along with slightly curved edges on the display that wraps it slightly over the sides of the handset.
As for its chipset of choice, Huawei is expected to have stockpiled its own Kirin chipsets in preparation of being banned from doing business with US companies (and companies that use US technology), so there is a good chance it will still feature the use of a Kirin chipset, but which make or model is unclear.
Unprecedented Power is coming.

That being said, we noted earlier that this could be the last major smartphone announcement for 2020, but more importantly, it could possibly be Huawei’s last smartphone to use the Kirin chipset at least for a while. This is because of the US ban, non-US companies that rely on US technology cannot do business with Huawei, which includes TSMC who has been responsible for helping Huawei make their chipsets.
It will be interesting to see how the Huawei Mate 40 will be received and if customers are still just as eager to get their hands on the phone, or if they’d prefer a handset whose future is a bit less shaky.
