OPPO surprises many with its ColorOS 11 launch and upcoming roadmap

Just last week, Android 11 graduated from beta status and started rolling out to owners of Pixel devices. A few different OEMs jumped onboard and announced plans for the Android 11 beta for their respective versions of the OS. Earlier today, OPPO was the latest to announce its update to ColorOS 11, which is based on Android 11.

For the unaware, Oppo has become some of Samsung’s stiffest competition in the global market, primarily in China. The company releases a slew of different phones, available at all different price points, along with being the parent company of OnePlus. However, since Oppo doesn’t have its eyes set on the US markets, OnePlus handsets take care of that. This is the reason why some OnePlus have the same features or a similar design to the Oppo devices launched elsewhere.

As for the software itself, ColorOS 11 opted to take much of what Google added to Android 11 and keep it in-tact. Meaning, that you won’t find features like Conversations View turned into something completely different. This, along with one-time permissions, Chat Bubbles, and the improved Power Menu has been added to Oppo devices, only with the company’s design language and not Google’s.

Those who love to customize their devices will love the update to ColorOS 11, as just about every facet of the OS can be tuned to your liking. Dark Mode is customizable, with three different color profiles, and you can even adjust the wallpapers or icons to change when Dark Mode is enabled. There’s also an improved Customization Dashboard which allows you to create custom themes with unique icons, fingerprint stylus, colors, font, and even the Always On Display. Being able to customize minor things like the accent colors is something we’ve seen from OnePlus and is just a nice cherry on top.

ColorOS 11 adds a few extra and nifty features, like Super Power Saving Mode, which lets you select six specific apps to run in low-battery mode while turning everything else off. Battery Guard has been added to ensure that you don’t overcharge your phone for those who plug it in before going to bed at night. It will charge your Oppo device up to 80%, and then fast-charge to 100% right before you wake up.

When is ColorOS 11 coming to my phone?

So now that you’re all excited for the update to ColorOS 11, you’re probably wondering when it’s coming to your Oppo phone. Thankfully, the company released a roadmap, giving everyone an idea as to when to expect the software to become available for a variety of devices. Seeing this roadmap is quite refreshing, considering that other large phone manufacturers leave its users in the dark for months on end with not even a peep as to when an update will arrive.

The public beta for the Find X2 lineup is available today, with plans to add more devices by the end of the month.
