Foldable smartphones aren’t cheap and we can’t say we’re surprised. Given how new the technology is, we imagine that it can’t be cheap to produce, plus there is all the research costs and marketing that companies need to recoup. The good news is that it looks like Samsung could actually be working on a more affordable model.
According to a recent sighting at the WiFi Alliance, the organization has certified a Samsung device with the model number SM-F415F/DS. Based on the model number, the “F” denotes that it will be a foldable device, and the “1” is meant to indicate that this is a second-gen device.
With the Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G sporting the model number F91x and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G being F70x, we can only assume that by having the F4XX model number indicates that it would be a lower-end device, although exactly how much the device would cost is really anyone’s guess.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5G is currently the “cheapest” out of the entire Samsung foldable range, but even then, it isn’t exactly what many would consider affordable. Hopefully this device, whatever it may be, could end up hitting the sub-$1,000 mark. We’re not sure when Samsung will announce the device, especially with the company already holding an event for the Note 20, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
