WhatsApp could make it easier for iOS users to switch to Android
WhatsApp backs up your messages to the cloud. This is a good thing as it makes switching between devices easier, but that’s only if you use the same platform, like iPhones to iPhones, Android devices to Android devices. This is due to the fact that WhatsApp for iOS and Android uses different storage services for message backups.
The good news is that if you’re looking to move from iOS to Android (or vice versa), the folks at WABetaInfo have discovered a potential new feature for WhatsApp that will make it easier to make the jump. This is thanks to an upcoming feature that will allow users to sync their chat histories across not just one, but up to four devices at once.
This means that when you load WhatsApp on a new device, you will still be able to see your message history from before, as opposed to it starting a brand new chat. This has been a much requested feature but a bit hard to implement due to the fact that unlike other messaging apps that use your email address as a login, WhatsApp requires an active phone number.
This makes it pretty much impossible to use the same WhatsApp account on multiple smartphones or even tablets, let alone sync messages. It is unclear what took WhatsApp this long, but it’s good to hear that it could soon be coming, whenever that may be.
