Google One will now back up your Android phone for free
Backing up your phone from time to time is always a good idea especially if there are things on there that you’d rather not lose, like photos, music, and so on. The good news is that if you are looking for a backup service, you might be interested to learn that Google has announced that they will be offering free 15GB of Google One storage for Android device backups.
For those who are unfamiliar, Google One is basically Google’s paid cloud storage service. While Google Drive already allows storage, Google One lets you expand on that storage by purchasing additional storage capacity in case the free storage isn’t enough. Speaking of free storage, we should also point out that this “free” Google One backup will count to the 15GB of storage that comes free with all Google accounts.
Google had previously offered automatic phone backup to users who were subscribed to its Google One storage plans, but it seems that the free backup feature will now be available to all Android and iOS users, regardless if they have purchased a Google One plan or not. Users will be able to backup things like photos, videos, contacts, and calendar events, just to name a few.
This can be controlled using the Google One app which now features a storage manager tool that will help them better understand how they’re using their allotted storage. This move is obviously done to try and get users to sign up for paid storage plans, but it might be worth checking out anyway.
