It is expected that come next week, Samsung will most likely be taking the wraps off the successor to the Galaxy Fold smartphone. Now thanks to a leaked photo posted onto Twitter, it appears that the next-gen Galaxy Fold’s name has been revealed, along with some additional details.
Assuming this leaked photo is the real deal, it looks like the second-gen Galaxy Fold will be known as the Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G. This is in line with Samsung’s branding where they named their more recent foldable phone the Galaxy Z Flip. The naming scheme also suggests that the handset will come with support for 5G.
This isn’t too surprising given that Samsung had recently updated the Galaxy Z Flip with a new 5G model. Apart from that, the design of the phone looks pretty much the same as its predecessor, however there could be a change as far as the front-facing camera is concerned.

While it’s a bit hard to make out, the leaked photo revealed that instead of using a notch like in the original Galaxy Fold, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G will feature a hole-punch camera instead. The original notch did not necessarily distract too much nor did it cut into the screen’s real estate too badly, but a hole-punch could possibly help create the illusion of an edge-to-edge display.
In any case, more details should be revealed next week so be sure to check back with us on the 5th of August for the official information.
