After years of waiting, the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 launches in international markets

For years, Xiaomi fans have had to resort to various companies such as Gearbest and others to get ahold of new products. This is due to the fact that Xiaomi had not officially launched all of its products in markets outside of China, but that’s now changing with the Mi Smart Band 5.

Announced alongside the Xiaomi Mi TV Stick, and Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Basic, the Mi Band 5 gains a new name and loses a few features. The Mi Band 5 was already available in China, but with this move to international markets, Xiaomi opted to remove a few useful features. These include the lack of an onboard voice assistant, NFC, and SpO2 tracking. However, for less than $50, the Mi Smart Band 5 is packing quite an impressive punch.

Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 (International) Specs

  • Display: 1.1-inches, AMOLED
  • Sensors: 3-axis Accelerometer, 3-axis Gyroscope, Heart Rate, Digital MEMS microphone
  • Battery Life: 14-days
  • Charging Time: ~2 hours
  • Health features: Heart rate, Sleep tracking, Women’s Health, Stress monitoring, step counter, breathing exercises, automatic walking/running detection, high heart-rate alerts.
  • Supported exercises: Running, Power Walking, Cycling, Indoor Running, Swimming, Freestyle, Indoor Cycling, Elliptical, Jump Rope, Yoga, Rowing Machine.

There are a total of 11 different supported exercises, to go along with automatic running/walking detection and heart rate monitor. You’ll also find sleep tracking built-in, and that’s not including the plethora of other features that the Mi Smart Band 5 is capable of when it comes to interacting with your smartphone.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of the Mi Smart Band 5 is that it will be able to just about everything you could want, while maintaining a battery life around 14 days. Smartwatches can’t even get close to that, and Fitbit’s Charge 4 is only rated to last up to seven days before needing some juice. Two weeks of battery, even while tracking your workouts and sleep is a unicorn that cannot be overlooked.

Then, you won’t have to worry about waiting around forever just to recharge your Mi Smart Band 5, as the magnetic charger has been improved. Xiaomi claims that you’ll be able to go from 0-100% in about two hours with this new charging method. That’s definitely something we’ll have to put to the test.

Xiaomi did not share an exact launch date for the new Mi Smart Band 5, nor did the company confirm whether it would be coming to the US. However, those in Europe and the UK can pre-order one today for EUR 34.99, with the retail price coming in at EUR 39.99.

If you want to skip the line or live in the US, you can grab the Mi Smart Band 5 for yourself today from Gearbest.
