The notch in the display of smartphones has become something many of us have accepted. While we’re sure that many would love to see companies eventually move away from the design, we’ll have to wait, but it seems that we might not have to wait much longer because Honor could be beating everyone to the punch.
According to the latest rumors, the Honor Magic 3 smartphone might be the first smartphone to launch with an under-display front-facing camera. The concept isn’t exactly new as we have heard about it in the past, but like we said, Honor’s upcoming Magic 3 smartphone could very well be the first smartphone to bring that technology to the market.
In the past, we have seen companies like Oppo and Xiaomi attempt similar designs, but as Oppo’s VP had pointed out, the quality of the camera when placed under the display isn’t the same and that overcoming that hurdle is something they are working on. Xiaomi has also shown off similar tech, but it seems mostly conceptual and more of a prototype for now.
It is a bit surprising that a smaller and lesser-known company like Honor would be able to beat the bigger companies like Apple and Samsung to the punch, but given that the Honor brand is a subsidiary of Huawei, it shouldn’t be surprising. Also, we’re not sure why this tech did not go to Huawei’s phones first, but take it with a grain of salt for now and we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more information.
