Whoops! Xiaomi’s CEO was caught posting from an iPhone

If you’re the CEO of a company that makes Android devices, obviously when in public, you will want to be seen using and promoting your own products. Unfortunately for Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun, it seems that maybe he did not get the memo in several posts made on Weibo (China’s Twitter), it seems that the CEO was making his posts via an iPhone.

The post was quickly taken down, but not before it was spotted by several people who then started sharing screenshots of it. Jun’s post was later republished, but this time it made sure to say that it came from the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, although it was a little too late.

Defending the post, Xiaomi executive Pan Jiutang explained the reasoning behind the iPhone post, claiming that the post was made using the iPhone because it was necessary to test the competition’s devices. As GizChina notes, the iPhone 11 isn’t exactly new and if there was testing to be done, it should have been done a long time ago, not seven months after the phone’s release.

That being said, Xiaomi isn’t alone in these types of gaffes. In the past, we’ve seen other celebrities who were meant to promote another company’s phone tweeting from the iPhone. Plus, it should be noted that it’s not exactly a secret that Xiaomi draws a lot of inspiration from Apple. The company’s CEO, in the past, also used to come on stage to make presentations in a clothing style popularized by Apple’s former CEO, Steve Jobs.
