Mediatek’s new flagship Dimensity 1000+ chipset features impressive gaming and battery optimizations

When it comes to flagship chipsets for Android phones, Qualcomm is typically regarded as being the top contender with its 800-series processors. That being said, MediaTek has been playing an incredible catchup game as of late with the Dimensity 1000 in late 2019 which put it within a striking range of the new Snapdragon 865 that’s been using on mod of this year’s flagship devices. To take things one step further, MediaTek has just unveiled the Dimensity 1000+ which packs in new battery and gaming optimizations which will make the chipset even more competitive when compared to what Qualcomm is offering.

The highlights of the MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ include a 7nm fab process with four Cortex-A77 cores, four A55 cores, the latest Mali—G77 MP9 GPU and support for quad-channel LPDDR4X RAM. Like its predecessor, it also supports QHD+ displays at 90Hz, dual_SIM 5G on mid-band and low-band aggregation that can deliver 4.7Gbps downlink and 2.5Gbps uplink speeds.

The new Dimensity 1000+ has a few improvements which now allow the chipset to support 144Hz screens with a maximum resolution of 1080p+ while also converting SDR video to HDR10+, making it an appealing option for manufacturers looking to deliver gaming and media-centric devices. Another major improvement is the chipset’s new 5G optimizations that allow it to dynamically switch between low and a high bandwidth modes based on the bandwidth needed by the phone or specific applications. This optimization will allow for the phone’s radios to reduce power consumption by up to 32% while communication over 5G, delivering improved overall battery life to the consumer.

New smartphones running the Dimensity 1000+ from MediaTek are expected to show up later this year. As of now, iQOO is the only manufacturer to announce plans to use the new chipset, but we suspect BBK’s other brands like Oppo, Vivo and Realme will follow suit.
