Android Auto is making its way to Harley-Davidson motorcycles
Cruising the open road has just gotten a new infusion of tech with the announcement that Harley-Davidson Touring bikes will be the first motorcycles released with Android Auto built into its “Boom! Box GTS” infotainment systems, giving riders access to their favorite apps, Google Maps navigation and voice control through Google Assistant.
With Android Auto, Harley-Davidson riders will be able to access favorite smartphone apps through the Boom! Box GTS and a wired connection to a compatible Android smartphone, making it easier to use favorite media, communication and navigation apps – including Google Maps™ – on the road while minimizing distractions. With the Google Assistant™ available on Android Auto, riders can perform actions by voice.
Harley-Davidson will also be rolling out an update to bikes on the road that already feature the “Boom! Box GTS” infotainment system. Users will be able to install the update on their own via the head units USB port or take their bikes into a Harley-Davidson dealership for assistance.
While Harley-Davidson is the first to offer a built-in Android Auto option for its customers, we suspect other brands will be doing the same. Giving riders better hands-free options for navigation and media is just as essential as it is for drivers on the road.
