First image of Huawei’s Mate X2 foldable reveals a second display
Huawei’s Mate X foldable smartphone was launched in China last year. The phone has yet to find its way to other parts of the world, but it seems that the company is already planning its successor. This is according to a patent filed over in Europe which could potentially hint at the Mate X2’s design.
From what we can tell, the Mate X2 won’t look too different from its predecessor, with one main change. Instead of the display being on the outside like an inverted book, the display will be on the inside, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Fold. The patent also suggests that a stylus could be bundled with the device, which makes sense when used in tablet mode.
Also, judging by the patent’s drawings, it seems that Huawei envisions placing as many as six cameras on the phone, where it will be divided into two clusters – one which will contain an array of four cameras, and another which will contain two cameras. Other than that, not much else is known about the phone, like display size, chipset used, RAM, and so on.
We should note that this is merely a patent so there’s no telling if this will actually be the design of the Mate X2, or if it is just a variant of the Mate X that did not come to pass, so don’t get your hopes up just yet.
