Qualcomm’s next-gen flagship Snapdragon 865 chipset officially announced
Qualcomm’s chipsets can be found in the majority of smartphones in the market today. The company’s Snapdragon 800-series of high-end chipsets are also the preferred chipset of choice for most flagship handsets, and it seems that come 2020, we can continue to look forward to seeing more Snapdragon-powered phones.
During the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit, the company took the wraps off its latest flagship chipset that comes in the form of the Snapdragon 865. This will be the successor to this year’s Snapdragon 855 and 855+. Oddly enough, despite this supposedly being the flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 865 will not come with 5G integrated into it.
What this means is that handset makers who plan to use the Snapdragon 865 and want to include 5G support, they will need to use a separate modem like the X55, but this is apparently a non-issue because according to the company, they have told The Verge that the Snapdragon 865 will be exclusive to 5G smartphones meaning that if a phone is powered by the chipset, it will support 5G regardless.
It just means that there will be an additional component in the form of a modem, but we imagine that for most end-users, this probably won’t matter too much.
