WhatsApp for Android updated with fingerprint lock support
Our smartphones already come with security features in the form of facial recognition, fingerprint scanning, or at the very least, support for PIN. This in itself protects the phone from being accessed by unauthorized users, although the problem with a “master key” approach is that once the phone is unlocked, the rest of its contents is pretty much fair game.
The good news for WhatsApp users is that following an update to the iOS version of the app that adds support for fingerprint unlocking, WhatsApp for Android now supports the same feature. What this means is that even if a person managed to unlock your phone, they would still need your fingerprint to open WhatsApp and to read your messages.
This additional layer of security means that you can now truly keep your WhatsApp messages private if you really want to. WhatsApp by itself already offers security features like end-to-end encryption, but in this day and age where we’re coming across a lot of hacks and breaches, having an additional layer of security is probably not a bad idea.
The feature should already be live for Android users so make sure that you are running the latest version of WhatsApp and you should be good to go.
