Pixel 4 versus OnePlus 7 Pro speed test: unexpected misstep

The OnePlus 7 Pro is an incredible device, outperforming nearly every other Android smartphone we’ve tested this year. The reason for that is simple – OnePlus crammed in all the best hardware it could get its hands on, delivering a phone which makes most other devices look inferior in nearly every way. On the other side of the spectrum, you have the new Pixel 4 from Google. As you might expect, Google’s focus with its 2019 flagship smartphone is mainly on the software experience, though the hardware has need upgraded a little from last year’s Pixel 3.

Pixel 4 review: reclaiming the crown

The Pixel 4 and OnePlus 7 Pro are both running on Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chips, but that’s where the similarities between these two phones end. OnePlus has blessed the 7 Pro with a mind-bending 12GB of RAM and has given it UFS 3.0 storage which gives is a nice advantage when it comes to sequential read and write speeds. The Pixel 4 only has 6GB of RAM and it’s running basic UFS 2.0 storage which does put it at a big disadvantage when you’re simply looking at the numbers. But since this is a speed test, we’ll see how the internal components actually hold up when going head-to-head.
