Run a full Bitcoin node on your smartphone with the HTC Exodus 1s
HTC may not be playing in the high-end smartphone space anymore, ut the company is currently leading the way in the cryptocurrency hardware space. Today, the company has introduced the HTC Exodus 1s which allows users to run a full Bitcoin node directly on the device while also allowing it to store an entire Bitcoin ledger. The phone’s specs really aren’t that impressive, but that’s perfectly fine since the device will sell for a mere €219 (roughly $245 USD). For that, you’ll get a 5.7-inch 720p display, Snapdragon 435 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, 13MP cameras on the front and back, a 3.5mm headphone jack, 3,000 mAh battery and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.
For those who don’t keep up with cryptocurrency, the ability to run a Bitcoin node on the HTC Exodus 1s will allow owners to validate and transmit Bitcoin transactions without needing a centralized third-party, effectively giving them a mobile, decentralized bank. While the hardware used by the phone is far front-cutting edge, HTC recommends plugging the phone in and being connected to a good WiFi connection when processing Bitcoin transactions on the device.
Those who would like to store an entire Bitcoin ledger on the HTC Exodus 1s will need at least a 512GB microSD card to hold it since the ledger currently requires 260GB of storage and is growing at a rate of 60GB per year.
HTC plans to roll out these new features to the original HTC Exodus 1, but no timeframe has been given at this point. We doubt the €219 Exodus 1s will be flying off the shelves, but its unique capabilities may be appealing for those who do a lot of Bitcoin trading and don’t want to use a third-party to process the transactions.
