Google has just announced the new Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, the latest in the companies own smartphone line. The devices have a strong focus on camera performance with a new dual camera setup consisting of a standard 12.2MP camera and a new 16MP 2x telephoto sensor.
We went hands on with the device in New York City, getting to check out the two phones in all their glory and pitfalls. The camera system is definitely an upgrade over last year’s Pixel 3, potentially making it the new king of mobile photography. On the front the dual camera system is gone, so you do lose the wide angle selfie camera, but you gain a super fast face unlock in that beefy forehead.
The design of the Pixel 4 is reminiscent of the old HTC Desire Eye. The white and orange models have a matte finish on the glass that feels very much like soft touch polycarbonate, while the black model gets raw gloss glass wrapped in an aluminum frame.
Other specs include a Snapdragon 855, 6GB of RAM, 64GB of base storage, 18W fast charging via USB-PD 2.0, and the new Motion Sense feature that allows you to control the device by waving your hands. The differences between the two devices are in screen and battery. The Pixel 4 features a 5.7-inch 1080p AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a tiny 2,800 mAh battery. The Pixel 4 XL steps up to a 6.3-inch QHD+ display and a 3,700 mAh battery.
The devices are up for pre-order right now for $799 and $899 for the smaller and larger models respectively, so let us know what you think!
