It seems that in addition to the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL that will be announced at Google’s event next week, it looks like Google could actually have one more surprise announcement. This is according to a report from the Nikkei Asian Review in which they claim that Google could announce a 5G Pixel smartphone as well.
While a lot of the focus has been on the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, there hasn’t been much talk about a 5G Pixel device. This has led to speculation that Google, like Apple, could be waiting until 2020 or later to launch such a device. Google has never really been one to rush to adopt new technology, like dual cameras, so it didn’t really come as a surprise.
That being said, if you have been following Pixel-related news, then signs of a 5G Pixel smartphone might have actually been hinted at before. Earlier this year, there were codenames related to the upcoming Pixel smartphones that were leaked. These names included “flame”, “coral”, and “needlefish”, with the former two being the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL.
It was unclear what “needlefish” referred to back then, but now this new report is suggesting that it could actually be a 5G Pixel handset. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but check back with us next week where hopefully, we’ll have more details to share.
