Essential confirms their next device is already in testing

Many had high hopes when the Essential Phone was first launched. After all, it was a handset by a company led by one of Android’s co-founders, Andy Rubin. On paper, there was a lot to like about the phone, but unfortunately, the phone failed to live up to the expectations of many, but then again, for the first phone of a new company, it is easily forgivable.

This is why many are anticipating the launch of the second Essential Phone, and the good news is that we could be getting an announcement soon. In an email sent to the folks at XDA Developers, Essential has confirmed that they have a new device that is currently in testing and that they will be sharing more details soon.

This is actually not the first time the company has confirmed that they are working on a new phone. Earlier this year in response to a tweet from a fan, Rubin tweeted that they would be making an announcement.

In addition to confirming that a new device is in testing, it was also discovered that a potential feature of the upcoming phone could be some kind of “fingerprint walkie-talkie”. This seems to be in line with a report from Bloomberg last year that hinted that Essential could be working on a phone that would heavily reliant on voice commands.

In any case, it’s probably best to take it with a grain of salt for now but hopefully with the device now in the testing stages, we can expect some kind of announcement in the near future before the year is out.
