Google’s Play Pass game & app subscription service launches with amazing introductory pricing

After teasing Google Play Pass earlier this summer, the service has officially launched in the U.S. market. For those unfamiliar with the new service, Google Play Pass is a monthly subscription which gives users access to Android games and applications which would traditionally be accompanied by an up-front purchase or in-app purchases. The service is available for more than 95% of Android devices or anyone running Android 4.4 or higher. Play Pass access is currently supported on smartphones, tablets, and Chromebooks with Google Play support, but Android TV devices will be added to the list in the near future.

Once you join Play Pass, users will see an extra tab at the bottom of the Play Store app which will highlight game and app recommendations based on your unique preferences. Users will also see the Play Pass logo on app icons throughout the Paly Store to indicate that it is included with a Play Pass subscription. While Play Pass is launching with only 350 applications and games, Google plans to add new ones each month. Current games which are already on the list include various titles from Toca Boca, Terraria ($4.99), Monument Valley ($3.99), Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic ($9.99), and Old Man’s Journey ($4.99).

Google Play Pass Pricing

Google Play Pass offers a free 10-day trial and then will switch over to $4.99 per month once the trial period has expired. Those who sign up for Google Play Pass before October 10th will only pay $1.99 per month for the first year. The good news is that the service works with Google Play Family Sharing, giving you and five other family members access to Google Play Pass with the single subscription with an individualized experience for each user with unique app or game recommendations.
