Gmail for Android shows hints of dark mode
Dark mode is a feature that we’re starting to see more of in apps these days, and if you’re a Gmail user on Android, then you might want to keep your eyes peeled for future updates to the app. This is according to an APK teardown by the folks at Android Police in which they have found some evidence that dark mode will be coming to the app.
Based on the teardown of the latest APK of Gmail, there are signs that dark mode is an upcoming feature, as you can see in the screenshots below which shows some parts of the app in dark mode. Android Police notes that at the moment, the implementation of dark mode is still somewhat sporadic which means that Google isn’t quite done with its development yet, so maybe don’t expect to see it anytime soon.

Gmail will not be the only apps that Google has brought dark mode to. Previously, the company had introduced a dark mode to its YouTube app, along with Files by Google, Google Drive, and Google Keep, just to name a few, with other apps such as Chrome showing signs of dark mode as well.
Google had previously acknowledged that features such as dark mode can actually help to save battery life, so it’s no surprise that they are looking to roll it out across more apps. It was also confirmed at Google I/O 2019 that a systemwide dark mode will be coming in the Android Q update.
