Verizon’s 5G services will kick off in April, but it won’t come cheap

Many are no doubt waiting for 5G to officially roll out. If you are in that camp, then you will be pleased to learn that Verizon has officially announced that their 5G services will be kicking off on the 11th of April.

It will be a limited rollout at first as it will only cover select areas in Chicago and Minneapolis, but the carrier expects that it should eventually find its way to more than 30 US cities by the end of the year. Now before you get too excited at getting 5G, we should caution you that Verizon’s 5G services will be more expensive than their LTE plans, so be prepared to pay at least $10 more than what you were previously used to.

At the moment Verizon’s unlimited plans are priced at $75, $85, and $95 a month. With the carrier’s new 5G services, their plans will start at $85 and upwards, but the carrier has stated that they will be waiving the $10 increase for the first three months, but ultimately do expect to pay more in the long run.

This is versus T-Mobile who had previously stated that their 5G plans will not be more expensive than their 4G plans, at least for the first three years.

That being said, there won’t be that many devices that can support 5G at the start. To that end, Verizon has also announced the 5G Moto Mod which when attached to compatible devices like the Moto Z3, will give the phone the ability to hook onto their 5G network.
