Months after the HTC U11 Life and most other smartphones have been updated to Android 9, HTC has broken its silence, revealing that its 2018 and 2017 flagship smartphones will receive their updates during Q2 of this year. For those keeping track, that means the HTC U11, HTC U11+ and HTC U12+ could be graced with their Android Pie update as early as April which is only three weeks away.
Unfortunately, HTC is giving itself the full quarter to deliver the update, which means you’ll likely be waiting until May or even June before the update notification pops up on your HTC smartphone. HTC hasn’t shared exactly how many devices it has sold for the past few years, but industry experts estimate that HTC sold roughly 24 million devices in 2017 and less than half that number in 2018. If that’s the case, there are likely 2-4 million units of the HTC U11, HTC U11+ and HTC U12+ which should be getting updated within the next 110 days or so.
We wanted to share the status on the Android 9 update. HTC is currently working on ensuring the update is compatible with our phones & we anticipate a release for U11, U11+ & U12+ customers starting Q2’19. Exact timing defers to operators’ availabilities in different countries.
