Not too long ago, Google announced Project Stream, a game streaming project in which the initial test saw Google stream Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey within its Chrome browser. The test of Project Stream has since come to an end, but the next phase could be beginning.
According to a source of 9to5Google, they have been tipped off that Google will be holding an event at GDC next month. This will apparently be a “keynote” in which Google will be sharing even greater details about Project Stream, and also possibly unveil new hardware that we have been hearing about called Project Yeti.
Details about Project Yeti are unclear at this point, but it has been rumored for the past few years already. Presumably, this will be hardware that will facilitate game streaming when connected to another device, like a monitor or a TV. We’ve seen Google express interest in casting before with devices like the Chromecast (which streams content from our phone to another device like a TV), so why not a gaming console that could stream from the cloud into our homes?
There have been previous attempts at trying to turn Android into a gaming platform, what with devices like the NVIDIA SHIELD and the OUYA. We’ve also seen Google launch devices like the Nexus Q and Nexus Player. Neither of them really quite took off in the way that Google, but perhaps Google might have better luck with Project Yeti.
