The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are some of the best Android smartphones available on the market but are out of reach of some people because of the price. Google could be addressing this with the Pixel 3 Lite, whose existence may have just gotten more real after an appearance on Geekbench.
With the trend of smartphones peaking above the $1000 mark, the market has seen an emergence of devices like the OnePlus 6T and Xiaomi Redmi range that offer flagship specs at a fraction of the price. The devices have been so popular that it has seen OnePlus catapult the likes of Apple and Samsung as the leading OEM in emerging markets such as India. The Pixel 3 Lite is Google’s way of offering a similar experience to its flagship range but at an affordable price.
The leaked Geekbench score sheet offers a glimpse at how that affordable experience translates to specs. With a single-core score of 744 and a multi-core score of 3201, the Pixel 3 Lite features 2GB of RAM with an 8-core Qualcomm processor. That is substantially lower than the Pixel 3, which scores 2388 and 8356 in single-core and multi-core performance, respectively. Benchmarks only tell half the story and are not typically representative of real-world performance, but do offer a baseline for comparing smartphones against each other.
The Pixel 3 Lite is expected to launch sometime in Spring on Verizon and is expected to cost between $400 and $500. Given the current Pixel 3 is around double that price when it launched, it puts into perspective the expected performance from the more affordable device.
