Updates are always welcome since they usually herald things like new features, improvements to the overall software experience, bug fixes, and so on. The downside is that sometimes updates can take a while which means that you might not be able to use your phone for a while, which can be annoying if you have important things that needs to be done.
The good news for Pixel owners is that in the latest security update issued to the phone, it seems that Google has introduced a new feature which should make handling updates better. One of those new features is the ability for your device to automatically pause an update while your phone is in use.
This means that if you need to fire off a quick email or respond to an urgent text while the phone is updating, you will be able to as the phone will pause the update until it detects that it is idle, in which the update will then resume. Apparently the string related to this feature has been around since at least last summer, but it looks like Google is only implementing it now, but better late than never.
The other feature introduced in the latest security update also includes the ability to schedule when your phone needs to be rebooted. Given that a reboot is necessary following an update, the new feature will let users decide when they want their phones to reboot. This means that users can schedule it at night when they’re sleeping so that it doesn’t interfere with their daily usage.
