Google Pixel devices getting January 2019 security update

0

It’s that time once again. It’s the first Monday of the month (well, the first non-holiday Monday) and Google’s devices are getting the January 2019 security patch update.

But not all of Google’s devices are getting the updates; only the Pixel series is receiving this round. The Nexus 5X and 6P are both older than the 3-year promise of security updates, they still received the last few. That was both surprising and reassuring. However, this is the first update that the Nexus duo are not receiving. The two devices have now reached their end of life.

The devices still receiving updates are the Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, and Pixel C. You can wait for the official update to roll out to you, or you can flash the OTA files (available here) or factory images (available here) at your own risk.
