Leak showing OnePlus 6T photos is a fake

With the launch of the OnePlus 6T set for October, the leaks have become a lot more prevalent as of late. OnePlus has shared a few official details about the phone and we’ve seen quite a few legitimate leaks. Unfortunately, there are people who doctor up their own leaks for the chance at two minutes of fame.

The latest OnePlus 6T leak is exactly that. A new post on Weibo shows four photos of a phone which looks to be the OnePlus 6T. While the post doesn’t actually claim that the device in question is the next OnePlus phone, the teardrop-shaped notch and the Never Settle wallpaper on the lock screen imply that the device is, in fact, the OnePlus 6T. But it’s not.

The tell-tale sign that gives it away is the lock screen shown in all the images. While there’s nothing fundamentally wrong with the lock screen, it just doesn’t match the UI OnePlus has been using for its phones. In fact, the lock screen is identical to that of the Oppo R17 which also sports a teardrop notch on its display. If you look closer, you’ll also notice that the narrow pill-shaped battery icon on its side is a one-to-one match for the battery icon on the Oppo R17. On top of that, the images also show a 3.5mm headphone jack cutout in the display at the bottom of the phone. In an interview with TechRadar, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei stated that the company would not be including the headphone jack on the OnePlus 6T.

Suffice to say, there’s nothing here to indicate that these photos are the upcoming OnePlus 6T. Multiple rumors have claimed that the OnePlus 6T and the Oppo R17 will share the same overall design. This isn’t at all surprising since a few OnePlus devices have shared the same overall design with flagship Oppo phones over the years. There’s a very good chance that the OnePlus 6T will be indistinguishable from the photos we see here, but we’ll just have to wait a bit longer for real-world photos of the device.
