Quite a few of you are eagerly awaiting the launch of the OnePlus 6T. The phone isn’t expected to be dramatically different from the OnePlus 6, but there are a few things that will set it apart. In an email exchange with CNET, OnePlus confirmed that the upcoming OnePlus 6T will feature an optical fingerprint sensor below the display. Moving the sensor below the display will allow users to unlock the phone with their fingerprint without needing to pick it up, making the phone easier to use. However, implementing this new technology will require the OnePlus 6T to be .45mm thicker than the OnePlus 6.
“We unlock our phones multiple times a day, and Screen Unlock reduces the number of steps to complete the action. By adding this feature as an addition to other display unlocking options such as Face Unlock, users will have options to unlock the display in a way that is most efficient for them.”
By moving the fingerprint sensor from the back of the phone and embedding it below the display, OnePlus will be making additional room on the back of the OnePlus 6T for its rumored tri-camera setup. Other rumors and speculation hint at the OnePlus 6T coming with a smaller notch on its 18:9 display, wireless charging, a 3,840mAh battery, and even faster Dash Charging.
The OnePlus 6T’s exact launch date is still unknown, but the device is expected to be unveiled in October.
