After being announced in November, Samsung began rolling out the Tizen 3.0 update to owners of the Samsung Gear S3 smartwatches. However, it was discovered that there was a bug in the software which caused users to report a “significant hit” to battery life after installing the update.
Samsung continued to scramble and then began seeding the update to various regions in waves, in an effort to keep the damage to a minimum should problems arise again. The update began rolling out to owners of the Gear S3 in the US, and now the update is available for download via OTA in Europe.
The revised update carries a firmware version of R760XXU2CQL1 and weighs in at around 21MB. However, it seems that you can’t really force the update to arrive on your device, and you will instead have to wait until the OTA arrives before being able to take care of these battery issues.
Be sure to let us know if you’ve received the update and if you have noticed improved battery life once the update has been installed.
