HTC could release just a few new devices in 2018
2017 was a roller coaster for HTC, but one thing was for certain – the company posted a loss in three straight quarters. Then, HTC and Google announced a new partnership which provided a $1.1 billion infusion into HTC to help keep things afloat and rolling, while Google looks to become a hardware OEM of its own.
Fast forward to 2018, and a new report claims that HTC may be taking a bit of a step back in the new year. The report suggests that a new variant of the HTC U11 Plus will launch in January, while the HTC U12 will launch sometime over the course of the year.
This new U11 Plus will be targeted at the mid-range market, but there’s no other information available regarding the device, other than the fact that it will be cheaper. As for the HTC U12, the report claims that we will see a 4K display, dual-rear cameras, and the Snapdragon 845 chipset at the helm – all quality flagship specs.
However, there is no mention of really any other smartphones coming to market, suggesting that HTC will release just a limited number of devices in 2018. This may be the true beginning of the end for the Taiwanese-OEM, at least in the world of smartphones.
