Samsung has confirmed that Injong Rhee, who served as the company’s chief technology officer and former Bixby chief, has resigned effective Wednesday. According to a report from The Korea Herald, the former head of Samsung’s Bixby team had expressed his desire to leave the company back in July, citing personal reasons.
Samsung says Rhee notified his staff in an email on Tuesday and stated that he felt selfish continuing as the head of a mobile company while his daughter was deployed to Iraq as an officer in the US Army. Rhee stated he “could not fulfill his role as a father properly while working as the mobile chief.”
Rhee has had a very storied history at Samsung, as he led the team that worked on Samsung Knox and Samsung Pay before heading up the development of Samsung’s digital voice assistant, Bixby. Rhee was appointed the company’s CTO last month in a shakeup that involved several executives.
