T-Mobile has undoubtedly done much to the carrier market ever since CEO John Legere stepped in. So now that things have kind of settled a bit in that market, the Uncarrier has turned its sights on the TV market with its latest acquisition.
Earlier today, T-Mobile announced it has purchased Layer3 TV, a streaming TV service. This move comes as the company plans to create an all-new TV streaming service, as it plans to create something similar to that of YouTube TV.
There are no specifics as to when this new partnership will begin trickling to T-Mobile’s consumers, other than a launch date of some time in 2018. The deal itself hasn’t actually been completed as of yet, but will be within the next few weeks.
The next question is whether this new service will only be made available for T-Mobile subscribers, or if we’ll be looking at another TV streaming platform made available for everyone, everywhere. We are expecting some exclusivity here, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this will be a move that will be beneficial for all parties involved.
