Google is working on a new YouTube music service to launch next year
Google is no stranger to music services. Like many things at Google, they have multiple apps performing the same function. On the music front, Google has YouTube Music and Play Music All Access. A new report claims Google is working on a new service for this Spring.
The new service could actually be a merging of the existing music services. The branding would be YouTube instead of Play Music. The new service will have many of the same features you find today, but also more video elements. There may also be a new subscription tier called “YouTube Plus.”
According to the report, this move is a response to the music industry. Executives have been disappointed in how YouTube Red is not a music service. Warner Music Group is already a partner, but Google still has work to do to get Sony Music and universal. YouTube plans to launch announce the service in March.
