Google Smart Clothes launch with Levi’s Commuter Jacket

Way back in 2014 we saw Google announce Project Jacquard at Google IO. We knew that Google would launch their first smart-equipped clothes via Levi’s Commuter Trucker Jacket but we weren’t exactly sure when. Now we know: September 27th!

Hello,

You were one of the first to follow Project Jacquard, and today we want to let you know that the first product built with Jacquard by Google — the Levi’s® Commuter™ Trucker Jacket — will go on sale in just a few days.

We started Project Jacquard in 2014 with a vision to create a platform that would allow designers and apparel companies to integrate connectivity directly into the things you love, wear, and use every day. We forged a close partnership with Levi’s® to bring interactivity to one of their most iconic denim products, a trucker jacket.

And now, I’d like to invite you to be among the first to own the jacket. On September 2 7, the Levi’s® Commuter™ Trucker Jacket with Jacquard by Google will be available exclusively at these select locations to start:

This is an exciting moment for Jacquard that we have been building towards for the past three years. We hope you can join us for the celebration, but if you can’t make it to any of those locations, don’t worry! The jacket will soon be available in select Levi’s® stores and on Levi .com, so stay tuned.

We’re excited to see you soon,

Ivan Poupyrev,
Director, Technical Project Lead,

What do you think?

Are you excited for “Smart Clothes”? Will it fizzle like 3D displays, catch on slowly but surely like smart watches, or require several iterations and re-imaginations before they become truly useful like we expect with Google Glass?
