Huawei is nearing the launch of Android Oreo on the Mate 9

While other devices are continuing to be rumored and launched as we near the end of 2017, OEM’s are also working on preparing the release of Android 8.0 Oreo. The latest of these OEM’s to be seen working on an Oreo update is Huawei with the Mate 9.

The company is just weeks away from unveiling its latest flagship with the Huawei Mate 10, but a Geekbench results page has surfaced which shows the Mate 9 running with Android Oreo. There’s no other information to share from the Geekbench results, but at least we know that Huawei is hard at work on Oreo.

Huawei hasn’t revealed any type of timeline for the Oreo release for its 2016 (and before) devices, but these results give us an idea that an update may be closer to launch. We’ll have to wait to hear something more substantial, and it wouldn’t surprise me if an announcement is made at the Huawei Mate 10 launch event.

As a refresher, the Mate 9 features a 5.9-inch FHD display, while being powered by the Kirin 960 SoC along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The device is still very capable and even features a rather impressive dual-camera setup. If you’re interested, you can still snag the Mate 9 from Best Buy, or even Amazon if you don’t care to wait for the Huawei Mate 10.
