OnePlus Launcher gets new folder view and moves to Play Store

It’s not uncommon to see manufacturers moving their phone-specific apps to the Google Play Store since this allows them to push quicker updates to those specific apps without requiring an OTA update. Samsung did it with their browser before finally making it available to install on most devices. Now, OnePlus is taking the hint by moving its Launcher, Gallery, Community, and Weather apps to the Play Store.

Along with this move comes an update to the Launcher, which brings some interesting changes in its 2.1.5 update. The folder preview on the home screen has been reworked to show four items instead of them being stacked. Also, the folder view has changed to be a bit more iPhone-like as it opens into a full screen now instead of a little widget-like panel that pops up.

I’m not sure I like the new change yet, since it was more convenient for my thumbs to have the smaller spread of the widget-like pop-up than the full screen spread that you see in the new OnePlus Launcher. On the old launcher, I could hit all of my Reading apps with just my right thumb and no stretching and now it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to do that. What do you think? Which view to you prefer?
