Qualcomm is pitted in a huge $1 billion legal battle against Apple in three different countries. Apple says Qualcomm has been charging higher royalties and forcing Apple to pay a percentage of the iPhone’s revenue in order to license Qualcomm’s patents, so the company decided to sue Qualcomm in the US, China, and the UK. Qualcomm has filed a countersuit and sought for the ban of iPhone sales in the US.
Now just one day ahead of the iPhone 8 reveal, Qualcomm wants to make sure the world knows that many of the “new features” that will be revealed on the iPhone 8 were actually done by Android phones first. (It’s no small surprise that all these phones feature Snapdragon processors.)
They released the following infographic with a list of futuristic specs that have been rumored for the iPhone 8 ahead of tomorrow’s announcement. They’re quick to note each Android-based phone that had the feature first.
Qualcomm points out in their press release that they’ve partnered with thousands of other companies in the industry who have brought these Android firsts to market and they’re quick to note that they’ll continue to do so with this little indirect jab at Apple.
Here’s to the next generation of mobile device start-ups and innovators, competing to bring you the next wave of class-leading Android devices. As before, they’ll continue to pave the way for others to come.
The FTC has agreed to investigate Qualcomm’s patent dispute with Apple, which could potentially affect the sales of the iPhone 8.
