Essential Phone drops pre-order status, now officially available in US and Canada

It’s been a turbulent few months for the Essential Phone after reservations for the phone became available back in May. It’s only today that the Essential Phone is finally available for purchase, dropping the “pre-order” status where it can be picked up either direct from Essential’s official website, carrier partner Sprint, or through Amazon.com.

Priced at $700, it’s definitely up there with the more premium side of Android devices thanks to a solid, titanium frame, ceramic back, and zero bezels along 3 sides of the phone. The company building the devices — Essential — is the brainchild of Android creator Andy Rubin and who is looking to create an ecosystem of modular attachments and connected devices. The goal of the company isn’t to push the kind of volume that Samsung or Apple does, but to create a sort of “boutique” experience with a loyal fan base.

The Essential Phone has been receiving some good reviews, where most of the complaints seem centered around the mediocre camera performance and a few software bugs marring an almost bare bones, stock Android experience. In case you need a refresher, here is the Essential Phone’s quick spec sheet:

If you’re looking to finally pull the trigger on the device, you can find the Essential Phone — in limited supply — at Sprint.com where they’re giving some away (with the possibility of a $5,000 in cash), as well as on Amazon but you’d better hurry. Supply is already running low.
